This week, you will see some of our products packaged in compostable containers. The poly bags we’ve been using are recyclable, but because there are limitations on the amount of times plastic can be recycled, we’re seeking alternatives to reduce our plastic use. It was important to us to find a genuinely sustainable product made with 100% Non-GMO plant materials. The containers we choose to purchase are produced in Blair, Nebraska. The corn they use is guaranteed GMO-free, and grows within a 30-mile radius of the facility where the packages are produced. We’re not certain that this is the absolute, most sustainable packaging option possible. Green innovations are constantly being developed, so we might find a better alternative one day. But for now, based upon our research so far, these containers seem like one of the better options out there. We will be using these containers on a trial basis, and encourage your feedback.
If any of our customers do not have access to a composting facility, we will be happy to take back your used containers to be composted at one of our farm sites.
